As the roads dry, the fun continues! Some random pics! Nov 17th: -15C in the morning, with windchill -25C. Sharp turning became difficult as the bushings became much harder in such a low temperature. (Condensation on the motors and electronics after going indoor: I don't think that would be a problem as they should get hot enough at the end of a ride.) This photo was taken in the afternoon, about a few degree warmer Nov 22nd: around zero and everything was wet. Nov 25th: thin snow covered most of the area but the grip was firm. With the experience gained in the pass few days, I was traveling just about as fast on the sidewalk as in the summer.

More Expensive:
This is not cheap at USD 2,299! (A bit cheaper if you are a Canadian. Send them e-mail and ask for a promotion code!) Very good specifications: Top speed 54km/h; Range 60km https://www.lacroixboards.com/product-page/dss60 It seems like a really quality board when you look at the inside of the enclosure, very well put together. So nice! There is one good discussion of the board here: https://www.electric-skateboard.builders/t/lacroix-board-co-wood-and-cf-deck-segmented-flex-carbon-fiber-enclosure-group-buy-completed/49051/2 Less Expensive: Bustin Dualomo™ Hybrid-X+ at USD999 https://bustinboards.com/products/dualomo-hybrid-pre-order Waterproof with a great look! The hub motors are not high quality but are easily replaceable when needed. This day comes finally today. The snow is here to stay. (Edit: I was wrong!!! The riding continues!) Coincidentally today, I finished moving yet to another apartment, a crazy third time this year.
This morning while on my way to work, I was standing at an intersection (location A), waiting for a pedestrian green light to cross (to location E). It was a relatively busy intersection with two lanes for turning left right in front of me. It was cold and so I put both my hands in my pockets and started looking around. After a short while, I was in awe to see my DIY some fifteen to twenty feet away from me (location B), still sliding forward! Seemingly, I nudged the throttle and it survived the first lane of moving cars!
I took my hand with the remote out of my pocket immediately. At this point, I cannot see my DIY any more due to the cars moving right in front of me. Now the decision: should I brake or should I push it forward a bit more to avoid the second lane of turning cars? I cannot see its position anymore as it was then hidden from my sight by cars moving right in front of me. Anyway, I applied the brake. Luckily almost at the same time, the light changed and no more cars were turning. I went pick it up (location C) and crossed the road to the other side. A man there (location D) saw everything and he was looking at me kind of wondering. Accident! I told him with a smile. Lesson learned: don't ever touch the throttle without at least one foot on the board, or something like that! |
