There was only one fall in 2017 that I could not simply run out. That happened on July 25th. It was an 1.5 hour ride and I was using a selfie stick for the first time. Max speed achieved was only 46.3 km/h as I was not used to holding a stick in my hand And perhaps because the left rear wheel had come loose and slid out a couple mm? (Note the gap between the wheel and the motor.) Anyway, the asphalt joint was wider than expected and I didn't slow down enough. I tried to cut an angle (through every joint) so that only one wheel would fall into the joint at any time. Since I was turning to cut this angle, I was not able to land right back on the deck after being thrown into the air. Here's how it happened. (The fall happened at 1:25 at a speed of 35km/h. Five seconds later, I was able to locate and retrieve my camera.) Not sure if it was because of my training many years ago in Judo, I surprised myself by doing a forward dive shoulder roll - I tucked my head and dived, rolling on the asphalt along my right hand, right elbow, right shoulder, and finally the right back side of my hip before standing right up side-way. (So cool that I wish I had captured it in video!) My G-Form elbow pad saved my elbow. However, it did not hold well in position while my elbow slid on the asphalt. My helmet barely touched the asphalt and suffered from minor scratches. In this particular instance, I would have been perfectly fine without the helmet. This gentlemen saw everything and not only did he tell me where my board went, he actually retrieved it for me. Saying farewell. Thank you so much! For better protection just in case I will fall at even higher speed, I bought this after the fall: Featuring both elbow and shoulder protection, this jacket has a big thick back armor plate for spine protection too.
Anyway, I will see you around in 2018
